Place the bulbs near a seating area or the front door so you can fully enjoy the fragrance as soon as they bloom.

Hyacinths grow to 20–25 centimetres, compact enough for any balcony planter, and their fragrance carries even further on a small, sheltered balcony. The bulbs thrive in full sun, which balconies often provide in abundance. Hardy as they are, the bulbs can withstand the cold of a pot on an open balcony without extra protection.

Do hyacinths come back every year?

Yes, hyacinths are hardy and usually return for several years, although the size of the flowers often decreases slightly after the first year.

Are hyacinths suitable for a balcony in a pot?

Yes, hyacinths do very well in a pot or planter, and their fragrance is especially noticeable on a small balcony.

How deep should I plant the bulbs?

Plant hyacinth bulbs 10–12 cm deep, with the pointed end facing up.
