Ornamental onion (Allium 'Gladiator') literally takes your balcony to a higher level: large, spherical purple flowers on sturdy stems, from May to June. An architectural eye-catcher that buzzes with bees. Plant the 5 bulbs in the autumn in a sunny, sheltered spot in a deep container. Hardy and reliable. Feel free to leave the spent bulbs standing — they remain decorative even when dry. Please note: allium is toxic to pets. Big effect with minimal effort.

Do allium bulbs come back every year?

Yes, alliums come back every year and form more bulbs over time.

Are allium bulbs suitable for a balcony in a pot?

Yes, allium bulbs do very well in a pot or container. Plant them close together — but not touching — for a full flowering result.

How deep should I plant the bulbs?

Plant allium bulbs deep: about 15–20 cm, and 15–20 cm apart. A deep pot provides stability for the tall stems.
