Chinese silver grass (Miscanthus sinensis 'Red Chief') brings movement and height to your balcony. Its graceful blades fan out and bear reddish-brown plumes from August onwards that remain attractive well into winter. An airy, natural screen that lets light through while still providing privacy. It loves a sunny, open spot and reaches a full-grown height of 150–180 cm. Hardy and robust; simply cut back the old foliage in the spring. Ideal as a living curtain along the railing.

Does ornamental grass come back every year?

Yes, ornamental grass is hardy and perennial. Cut back the old foliage in the spring, and it will sprout again fully.

Is ornamental grass suitable for a balcony in a pot?

Yes, provided you use a large, sturdy pot. This plant grows big and requires plenty of water, so a larger container will not dry out as quickly and is less likely to blow over.

Does ornamental grass provide privacy all year round?

During the growing season, ornamental grass forms a full, airy screen. In the winter, the blades die back, but the plumes remain decorative; cut them back in the spring. If you want a dense screen in winter as well, combine it with evergreens.
